Invited Talk 14 «Women in science: the need for Karen Hallberg (CAB-IB, Argentina). Karen Hallberg holds a PhD in Physics from the Balseiro Institute in Bariloche. She is Principal Researcher of the Argentine Council for Science and Technology (CONICET) working at the Bariloche Atomic Center and is professor at the Balseiro Institute (Argentine Commission for Atomic Energy and University of Cuyo). She has been awarded the 2019 L’Oreal-UNESCO International Award For Women in Science for Latin America. SATURDAY – December 12 In science, according to UNESCO, worldwide, less than 30% of scientists are women. And this includes all sciences, natural, biomedical, exact and social sciences. If we consider STEM alone, the numbers are even lower. Women are not only a minority, but they are far from being protagonists in decision making and policy shaping. Few exceptions confirm the rule and men continue to dominate the field. |
